Hi
First of all I would like to congratulate you on having a new member to your family!
With all the love that your new bundle of joy will give you they are well worth the effort to take the time to train them well.
With the Shih Tzu being such an intelligent breed I think the biggest problem that we all may have is remembering that not only do they learn the good traits that we want them to have, they will also learn the bad habits very easily. It's important to remember when you bring your bundle of joy home that what he learns now will always be there, good or bad. A common example of this, that we will use to explain is, do you want your furbaby to sleep with you forever? If the answer is no then tonight if (when) he or she crys don't bring them into your bed ... because tomorrow night they will just cry louder and longer to get there. This holds true with all that they learn.
We have had other Breeds in our Life but I have to say that the Shih Tzu is the smartest and the most people oriented breed that I have ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with!
Remember to always be consistent and loving ... and your furbaby will learn everything from Potty training to tricks ... and will become a true member of your family!
Come back often as we will be adding more training tips regularly.
